How many hours per week will I be working? On average, each Post-doc fellowship position requires a 50 to 55-hour work week, which is fairly typical for the post-doc year. Each fellow works 20 hours per week at the Chicago School campus in an administrative leadership placement, and the remainder of the time at the clinical placement.
What types of supervision and didactics are offered? Each fellow has a minimum of one hour per week clinical supervision, one hour per week administrative supervision, 1.5 hours per week of group supervision/professional development. “Grand Rounds” didactic seminars are scheduled once per month and each fellow presents a minimum of one time. Clinical rotations may have additional requirements and offerings for supervision and didactics.
What is the interview process like? Interviews will be scheduled for May 2010. When all applications are reviewed, potential candidates are invited for a full day interview. Candidates will be invited to interview with supervisors in both rotations within the position. On a separate day, candidates will be invited to have a second interview at the clinical sites/attend an open house.
How are placements determined? Candidates will be selected based on their fit with both programs in each post-doc position. We consider background and training goals for the year, as well as the needs and environment of the placements.
Will I meet all the requirements for licensure in Illinois? Yes. The program is structured so that you are able to achieve the hours and experiences needed for Illinois licensure.
How many positions are being offered in the 2010-11 training year? 5
Is teaching mandatory? Some formal or informal teaching may be required in certain campus departments. In addition, all fellows have the option of teaching a formal course above contract in one of the academic programs at The Chicago School as well. We typically recommend that you begin teaching during the second semester of the program so that you can adapt to the split schedule and better predict your availability.
Do I need to meet any special requirements to teach? Experience teaching or working as a teacher’s assistant is recommended; however if teaching is a new experience for you, The Chicago School will organize a mentorship experience where you meet regularly with a faculty member who teaches in the same course stream.
Where is the fellowship located? You will be working at least at two different locations – 20 hours at the The Chicago School campus at 325 N. Wells in Chicago, and the remainder of the time at an off-campus clinical placement. Your clinical placement may be located in the city of Chicago or surrounding suburbs. Transportation may play a role in which placements you can seriously consider. A few of the clinical placements may require travel to more than one agency site as well. These details will be determined prior to your start date and will be included in your training contract.
