Center for Academic Excellence (CAE)


Mission Statement

The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) supports and advances academic performance and scholarship through innovative, cutting-edge programs and learning experiences. CAE creates opportunities for academic enhancement for TCSPP students enrolled in on-ground and blended programs in Chicago and Grayslake. We focus on the following three areas:

  • Critical & creative thinking ("Socratic Roundtable" discussions, "Storytelling in Psychology" lecture series, "Mental Health & Theater" Program; Fall & Spring Salons "Food for Thought", "Starting from Scratch" lectures, Book of the Year Club and other programs). This year's co-curricular programming focuses on the relationship between archetype, stereotype, and prejudice.
  • Written and oral professional communication (consultations, tutorials, in-class presentations, and workshops on academic and professional writing (with a focus on APA style writing and formatting). More information

Services:

  • In-class presentations (invited by faculty) and workshops on topics related to academic and professional writing, metacognition, and time management
  • Consultations on written assignments
  • Weekly or biweekly writing tutorials (tailored to meet the needs of individual students)
  • Diagnostic assessment of student writing
  • Workshops on academic and professional writing
  • Learning style consultations
  • Time management consultations
  • Help with composing, editing, and proofreading cover letters, resumes, and CVs
  • Help with conceptualizing and creating poster presentations
